The moving checklist.
Every task of a house move, in the order that stops them becoming emergencies. Tick things off as you go — from six weeks out to finding the kettle.
0/25 ticked off.
4–6 weeks before
- Get your removals quote booked in (dates go fast at month-end)
- Start a room-by-room declutter — sell, donate, bin
- Order packing materials, or book our packing service
- Give notice to your landlord if renting
- Book time off work for moving day
2 weeks before
- Confirm parking for the van at both addresses
- Redirect your post with Royal Mail
- Tell your bank, GP, dentist, school and insurers
- Transfer or set up broadband at the new address
- Use up freezer food — it can't travel far
A few days before
- Pack an essentials box: kettle, chargers, meds, kids' favourites, toilet roll
- Photograph meter readings and valuables
- Dismantle anything you agreed to do yourself
- Label boxes by DESTINATION room, not origin
- Defrost and dry the freezer
Moving day
- Strip the beds — bedding travels in a labelled bag
- Keep keys, documents and jewellery with you, not in the van
- Walk the crew round the house before loading starts
- Final sweep: lofts, sheds, cupboard tops, behind doors
- Take final meter readings and lock up
At the new home
- Direct boxes by their room labels
- Check the inventory off with the crew lead
- Find the kettle. Make the tea. You've earned it
- Test smoke alarms and locate the fuse box and stopcock
- Leave us feedback — it genuinely helps a new brand grow
